Google debuted its superbowl ad at the 2010 superbowl. The advt is a very creative one showing how search can be used. Though rumors were their about the Google’s superbowl advt, no confirmation was their till the last moment.
The ad took everyone by surprise & has since then risen in the viral video chart. Google for the first time has given an advertisement about its business.

Facebook, the darling of the social networking, is now the 2nd most popular Web site in the USA. It has surpassed Yahoo in Jan. Yahoo, once the gateway to the web, lost the No. 1spot to Google in February 2008 & is at 3rd place. At the rate facebook is growing, it may claim no 1 spot by the end of 2010.

Facebook – 133 million visitors
yahoo – 132 million visitors

Users spend a lot of time in Facebook with games like farmville, mafia war. Though twitter grabbed headlines with Iran election & other news, it has not been able to have an astronomical growth. Facebook recently introduced changes to its pages.

Google, Yahoo, MSN, Facebook & AOl are the top Mobile internet brands in a report by Neilsen. Mobile internet is taking off in a big way with the smart phones. US is one of the biggest mobile internet markets. Also in the list are weather channel & CNN. This shows people are looking for news & weather related info. Surprisingly, AOL is a top Mobile brand. Mobile advertising is also taking off in a big way. Google’s nexus one phone is its entry into smart phone market. Google’s interest in Admob, mobile ad serving company, shows the importance of mobile internet market. Facebook’s Mobile top brand position comes from its strong 350 million members.

Google wave, which generated a lot of buzz during its release, has not been able to materialize much buzz these days. It was an invite only site in the beginning & there was much demand for its invitation. Touted as the top such product which was able to combine all the elements of social activity. However, the interest in wave has waned as seen by the graph. Will this also go like other Google products like Knol?

Bing, Microsoft’s Search engine, has been making a steady progress ever since it went online. Its search market share has increased & at the same time yahoo’s has been going down. Bing has made many improvements like Twitter deal, improving the maps & others. In the US market google has around 67% followed by Yahoo & MSN around 14.5% & 9.9%. Also in the global market google has a great market share. Also AOL & Ask.com are also in the top 5 spots in US. Microsoft has been on a tie up spree by providing for the Bing tool bar with several companies. Google is also moving into the mobile market now releasing its own phone & thereby tapping the huge mobile search market as well.

Google has stunned the world by announcing that it would end its chinese operations & close the google china site. It has said that a sophiticated attack has been made on its technical infrastructure & the accounts of human righs activists have been targeted. But will Google definitely leave China, world’s largest market? It has the second largest market share in China after Baidu. Companies which do business in China will have to comply with the Chinese rules. The topic has become a trending one on Twitter. Google’s motto is dont be evil. when it started operations in China, it had to agree to the Chinese terms & Google was criticized for this act. Now Suddenly Google has taken a U turn.

Google had been on a product releasing spree in 2009. Google has tied up with facebook & Twitter to include the real time search data in the results. It also introduced search wiki, chrome themes, extensions for chrome. Google is also moving into the mobile area by selling Nexus one mobile phones. Google of late has been diversifying from its core competency of search to areas where its ads can be displayed. Google’s Goggle, its search technology with taking a picture is also introduced on android powered phones.
